How MyTestAtlas tests are made and checked

How our puzzles and questionnaires are written, checked and scored, where the research figures come from, and what a result here cannot tell you.

Who makes the tests

MyTestAtlas is an independent site run by Vitali Bibikov. Its puzzles, questionnaires and guides are written, edited and checked in-house. Where a test uses a published scale or openly licensed material, its authors and licence are credited by name on the sources page. No test here is written or endorsed by a test publisher, an employer, a university, Mensa or a clinical body.

Puzzles with exactly one answer

Most reasoning puzzles on the site are generated. A program draws each grid, series or argument from a number called a seed, and the same seed always gives the same item, so any puzzle can be rebuilt and checked later. For figure puzzles, the generator tests every option against the rule before an item is used and keeps the item only when exactly one option fits. Wrong options are built to look plausible, so a guess from the look of the options alone does not work.

That check is about whether a puzzle has exactly one answer. It is not a review by psychologists, and it does not set how hard a puzzle is for people.

Questionnaires and published scales

Some questionnaires use a published public-domain or openly licensed scale word for word, with its own scoring, and name it. The others are our own. We do not copy a test whose publisher keeps its rights; the guide to which psychological tests may be reproduced explains where that line sits and why.

Research figures and the claims ledger

Every sentence that rests on outside research, such as a typical reaction time or what Mensa admission asks for, links to the page it came from, and many show the day we last read it. We keep each of those sentences in a claims ledger with its source, the day it was read and the day by which it is due to be read again.

Why most results have no percentile

A percentile needs a reference group. We do not print one from our own visitors until a test has at least 400 anonymous results in its tally. Until then a result shows your own count, time or pattern; where research publishes a typical figure, as on the reaction time, digit span and reading speed pages, the page quotes it with its study; and some results use the provisional wording explained in how results work.

What a result here cannot tell you

Every test runs on your own device without supervision, so screen size, input delay, interruptions and practice all move a result. No test here gives a clinical IQ, a diagnosis or an employer's decision. Health self-checks help you prepare for a conversation with a professional. Children's pages are made to be used with a parent or teacher. Terms used on these pages are defined in the glossary.
