How this test works

What this assessment measures

This Spanish level test gives English speakers thirty questions in rising order: ten on beginner material, ten intermediate and ten upper-intermediate, covering ser and estar, the preterite and imperfect, object pronouns, por and para, the subjunctive and vocabulary in context. The result names the highest level of material you answered reliably, in words, and shows your accuracy on each grammar point, with every answer explained in English.

Original MyTestAtlas questions written for English speakers; every key checked against the cited Wiktionary entry or Instituto Cervantes grammar inventory, named under its explanation. Not a placement test and not aligned to any exam.

Thirty questions taken once can describe the material you handled, not your Spanish. The result is not a CEFR level, not a course placement and not an exam prediction, and it does not test listening, speaking or writing. The levels name how far along a typical course a grammar point is usually taught, which varies between courses and countries.

Scoring happens in this browser tab: answers and result text are not sent as analytics properties, and answers are never written to browser storage. Why this route is different

Most free Spanish quizzes print a level code from a handful of questions and stop there. This one tells you which grammar points held up and which did not, explains every answer in English, and names the page each answer was checked against. Spain and Latin American Spanish are both accepted: no form that is correct in either is marked wrong.

A small next step

Take the grammar point with the lowest card and write five sentences of your own that use it, then check them against the explanation for that question. Retake the test in a few weeks: it is the same thirty questions, so part of any change will be memory of them.

Questions people ask

What level of Spanish am I?

This test gives a description in words: the highest level of material, beginner, intermediate or upper-intermediate, on which you got at least 70% right with every easier level right too. It is not an official level code; only a full, supervised assessment can give one.

Is this test for Spain or Latin American Spanish?

Both. No option that is correct in Spain or in Latin America is marked wrong, the sentences use words understood in both, and where usage differs between them the explanation says so.

Can I say I don't know?

Yes. Every question has a Skip / I don't know button. A skipped question counts as not solved, the same as a wrong answer, so a guess costs nothing and you can come back to a skipped question before the result.

Is this a placement test or an official exam?

No. It is a practice quiz written for this site. It does not place you in a course and it is not linked to any official Spanish exam or certificate.

Are my answers sent anywhere?

No. The questions are scored in this browser tab. Analytics receives only that a run started or finished, and a coarse share of questions solved, never an answer or a level. A result is kept only if you press Save this result.
