How this test works

What this assessment measures

This mental age test is a game. It asks how twenty everyday statements fit you, about free evenings, bedtimes and mornings, new things, small frustrations and keeping in touch, and turns your answers into a playful age between 10 and 90. Everyone starts at 30, each answer moves the number up or down by up to five years, and the result prints the exact sum and the three themes that moved it most.

This is entertainment. An adult has no mental age to measure: the idea came from comparing children with the typical child of each age, and it stops meaning anything once growing up is done. The number here is a playful sum over twenty statements built on stereotypes about age, and it says nothing about intelligence, maturity, personality or health.

Scoring happens in this browser tab: answers and result text are not sent as analytics properties, and answers are never written to browser storage. If you are signed in, Save this result stores the scored result, never your answers, under your account. If not, Sign in with Google to save it holds the result shown in this tab until Google brings you back, then saves it and erases it from the tab.

Why this route is different

Most mental age quizzes hand you a number and keep the arithmetic to themselves. This one prints the formula under the result, so you can see that a slow train and a birthday card by post counted as older-feeling, a last-minute plan as younger-feeling, and decide for yourself how seriously to take that.

A small next step

Look at the theme that moved your number most and do the opposite once this week on purpose: book the spontaneous evening, or keep the early night. Then notice which of the two you actually enjoyed.

Questions people ask

What is my mental age?

This quiz gives a playful answer: a number between 10 and 90 built from twenty everyday statements, with the formula printed beside it. It is a game, not a measurement, and no test can give an adult a real mental age.

How is the mental age calculated?

Everyone starts at 30. Each statement leans older-feeling or younger-feeling, and your answer moves the number by up to five years either way: 2.5 years for each step away from the middle of the scale. The total is rounded and kept between 10 and 90.

Is mental age a real thing?

For children it was a real idea in the history of psychology: Alfred Binet's tests from 1905 onwards compared a child with what children of each age could usually do. For adults it stops meaning anything, which is why this quiz is a game.

How long does the mental age quiz take?

About four minutes for twenty statements. It is free, and you do not need an account.

Are my answers stored or sent anywhere?

No. The result is calculated in this browser tab. Answers and result text are never sent as analytics properties, and answers are never written to browser storage. The result is kept only if you press Save this result: signed in, it goes to your account; signed out, it waits in this tab while you sign in with Google, then it is saved and erased from the tab.
