What this assessment measures
The best-known happiness questionnaire mostly asks about the things thought to produce happiness, such as self-esteem, purpose, interest in other people and an eye for beauty, rather than about happiness itself. That is why it agrees so well with all of them, and it is also why it cannot tell you whether any of them makes anybody happier. This page separates what that structure folds together. It asks sixteen everyday statements about an ordinary recent week and reports four readings apart: how the weeks feel, whether your life is going as you would have chosen, whether it is going anywhere, and whether anything takes you over completely. Nothing is added up. There is no happiness score, no band, no type and no comparison with other people, because the commonest claim in this category, that you are happier than some percentage of the population, is exactly what this site refuses. A low reading here is not a mental health finding. If the four readings match how the last few months have actually gone rather than how this week went, our low mood self-check asks a different and more useful set of questions, and a doctor asks a better one still.

Answers about how good life feels move with the last few days more than people expect, and with the weather, the season and what happened this morning, so this is a reading of one sitting rather than of a life. There is no score here, no comparison with anyone else, and a low reading is not a mental health finding.
