Reaction and attention tasks
Report the middle arrow while the others disagree
Forty flanker trials: report the middle arrow while the arrows around it agree or disagree. The gap between conditions is your flanker effect on this device.
What this assessment measures
The flanker task shows a row of arrows and asks for the direction of the middle one. When the outer arrows point the other way most people slow down; the difference in response time is the flanker effect, a measure of how well you filter out surrounding information. This page reports both conditions and the gap.

- Five arrows appear; only the middle one counts.
- Press the left or right arrow key, or tap Left or Right.
- Half the time the outer arrows point the other way.
- Forty trials; each waits up to three seconds.
This task needs vision and a pointer or keyboard, and it measures response times. Times are measured on this device and browser and are reported as your own figures; they are not comparable across devices or with other people. If you use a screen reader or cannot respond quickly, the questionnaires and reasoning tests on this site are the accessible route.

Forty browser trials are a snapshot of selective attention on this device; arrow size, screen and input method all affect the figures, which are not comparable with other people or with research norms.
This route calculates its result in this browser tab; answers and result text are not sent as analytics properties or written to browser storage. Response times stay in this tab as well.
