AtlasMemoryVisual Memory Test

Span and recognition tasks

Reproduce the lit cells after they disappear

Cells light up in a grid; tap them back after they disappear. The pattern grows and the grid widens until you miss twice; the result is the largest pattern reproduced.

What this assessment measures

A visual pattern span task: a set of cells lights up in a grid for under two seconds and you tap the same cells back. Each success adds a cell and the grid grows from three by three to five by five. The result is the largest pattern you reproduced before two misses at one size.

How the task works

  1. A grid shows a set of lit cells for under two seconds.
  2. Tap the same cells, then Submit.
  3. A correct pattern adds one cell and the grid grows from three by three to five by five.
  4. Two misses at one size end the task.

This task needs vision and a pointer or keyboard, and it measures response times. Times are measured on this device and browser and are reported as your own figures; they are not comparable across devices or with other people. If you use a screen reader or cannot respond quickly, the questionnaires and reasoning tests on this site are the accessible route.

Screen size, pointer precision and strategy affect the count; it is a snapshot on this device, not a spatial-memory score comparable with other people.

This route calculates its result in this browser tab; answers and result text are not sent as analytics properties or written to browser storage. Response times stay in this tab as well.

Why this route is different

The grid grows with the pattern so that large patterns are not trivially dense, and the result is stated as a count of cells rather than a percentage that would hide the size reached.

A small next step

On a second attempt try naming the pattern's shape to yourself before it disappears and see whether the largest pattern changes.
